Based on in-depth research and a literary adaptation of the masterwork "The Women of Israel" by the British-Jewish author Grace Aguilar (1845).

Through the stories of the women of the Bible, the book invites us to revisit questions of love, faith, identity, choice and meaning, and to discover how relevant they remain to our lives today.

Maya Spielman

Nice to meet you, I'm Maya Spielman

  1. Research and writing on women's education and Jewish history
  2. Author of "Ahavat Netzach Imahit", Carmel Publishing
  3. Based on Grace Aguilar's "The Women of Israel", 1845

I believe that to understand who we are today, we should know the women who came before us. Through research, books and lectures I seek to bring their voices back into our awareness, and in my latest book, "Ahavat Netzach Imahit" (Carmel Publishing), I give new life to Grace Aguilar's 1845 masterwork "The Women of Israel".

When history becomes a story that touches our lives

The lecture

The Jewish Writer History Forgot

The story of Grace Aguilar, and the journey that brought her back to life.

Who was the young Jewish writer who dared to raise an independent voice in 19th-century England?

It is an encounter about women, heritage and identity, and about how a story from the past can open a new perspective on the present.

On the lecture

How beautiful, how wise and knowledgeable. Grace was a true scholar, and if not for you, I would never have heard of Grace Aguilar. We met Grace Aguilar, a woman from 200 years ago, live, because Maya, you live what you do. Huge thanks, you moved us, and we'll hear more from you.

I read the book with bated breath and with grace. Grace Aguilar connects us to every mother in the Bible in a wondrous way, and you, Maya, poured her sublime words into every story. After the Bible, this is a must-read for every Jewish woman.

Every woman has a place in the story

I believe no woman begins her story alone.

Behind each of us stand generations of women who lived, learned, dreamed, struggled, created and left a legacy behind them.

My wish is that every woman can come to know this lineage, find a sense of belonging in it, and know that her voice, too, has a place.
